Frequently Asked Questions

What is your typical process when working with a new student?
With any new student, my goal is to quickly learn what my students goals and ambitions are. While learning the fundamentals such as technique, coordination, timing, and feeling is key, connecting these concepts with music that resonants with the student helps these ideas stick.

What age range do you teach?
My students age group ranges from 8 to 65+. Sometimes students come with years of experience, looking to harness a certain set of skills, and other times students come in having never touched drum sticks in their whole life. In all cases, I love teaching different styles and techniques to drummers from all walks of life.

What Do I need to Get started?
All you need to start is a computer, stable internet connection, drum sticks, and a drum pad. Eventually, you may want to invest in the full drum set. You can download my beginner drum gear cheatsheet with the link below

Do You Teach Music Theory?
Yes! Learning notation and reading can be intimidating at first, but it's actually more simple than most think. Just like with learning any language, there are simple words and phrases that help us understand, communicate, and memorize any idea. While it's not a prerequisite, learning theory can help expedite the learning process.

What length lesson do you recommend?
I teach in 30, 45, and 60 minute increments. For most teenage and adult students I recommend starting with 45 minutes, and if you feel like a longer lesson would you suit you better, we can then switch to 60 minutes.

How Long Have You Been Teaching Drums?
I found my passion for teaching at a young age, and began instructing students at 18. For the last 17 years, I've been teaching in person and online full time.
